Throughout the whole history, woman is considered a guardian of home hearth, who creates the harmony of family relations, brings up children, inspires for feats, and for labour achievements. Looking at the carpets, weaved by our fellow countrywomen, one feels the tenderness of carpet-maker’s soul. People say: “Home is rich if there are many carpets” which means that over the times, Turkmen carpet became not only the standard of the beauty, but also the criterion of welfare.

The legend about the woman who weaved first carpet is mentioned in the book. “She was very fine, extremely beautiful. Anybody who could look at her lost one’s mind. This woman weaved the road to heaven form the sun beams and flew away along the road. She made up the main thread from those sunbeams, and then made a thread from the green hills, tied white knots from morning fogs, yellow- from golden sands, thus this woman reached the sky. That is why Turkmen carpets are of a bright red colour as magnificent sun and white colour is beautiful and fresh as morning fogs.” As noted by the Head of the State, this legend appeared because of our ancestors believed in miracle-working power of the carpet.
